Which delivery method should I choose for my bills?

Modified on Mon, 15 Sep at 4:32 PM

When you connect to your council or utility in Payreq, you can choose how you’d like to receive your bills and notices.

The way your bill is sent is called a delivery method — for example, through your Payreq Smart Mailbox, email, or even BPAY View.

Note: Not all delivery methods are offered by every council or utility. The options you see will depend on the organisation you connect with.

1. Payreq Smart mailbox (most secure option)

Your bills are delivered straight to your Payreq Smart Mailbox, a safe online place where they’re stored for up to seven years.

  • Best for: Keeping everything secure, organised, and easy to find.

  • Why choose this method:

    • No spam or junk mail

    • Easy to search and download past bills

    • Protected with bank-grade security

2. Email + Payreq Smart Mailbox (most popular option)

Your bills are emailed directly to you as a PDF attachment, and they are automatically saved in your Payreq Smart Mailbox for safe keeping.

You can even have bills emailed to up to five different addresses — perfect for families, housemates, or shared household accounts.

  • Best for: Extra peace of mind and easy sharing so no one misses a bill.

  • Why choose this method:

    • Bills are delivered straight to your inbox as a PDF

    • The security of Smart Mailbox for long-term storage

    • Flexibility to send bills to multiple people at once

3. Email only

Your bills are sent directly to your regular email inbox, without being stored in your Payreq Smart Mailbox. This is usually set up by filling in a form directly on your biller's website.

  • Best for: People who want quick, direct access without logging in to Payreq.

  • Things to keep in mind:

    • Emails can be accidentally deleted or marked as spam

    • You’ll need to save bills yourself if you want to keep them long term

4. Group Mailbox (Payreq MyBills Agent) (for agents and property managers)

Bills are sent to a shared mailbox, making it easy for teams — like property managers or agents — to manage bills for multiple properties all in one place.

With Payreq MyBills Agent, you get extra tools designed specifically for managing large volumes of bills, including:

  • Bulk registration – quickly connect multiple properties to Payreq in one step.

  • Bulk download – download bills for many properties at once, instead of one by one.

  • Automatic forwarding – send invoices directly into accounting or property management software like MYOB, PropertyMe, Xero, or Reckon Accounts Hosted.

Best for:
Property managers, real estate agents, or businesses that need to organise and process bills for many properties quickly and accurately.

5. BPAY View

Your bills are delivered to BPAY View, where you can view and pay them directly from your online banking.

  • Best for: Managing bills and payments in one place through your bank.

  • Note: Not all councils or utilities offer BPAY View.
